Das &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Mor-Mattai-Kloster&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; oder &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kloster des Hl. Matthäus&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; ({{syrS|ܕܝܪܐ ܕܡܪܝ ܡܬܝ&amp;amp;lrm;|Dayro d-Mor Matay}}, {{arS|دير مار متى&amp;amp;lrm;|Dair Mar Mati}}) befindet sich auf dem Berg [[Dschabal Alfaf]] im Nord[[irak]]. Es ist eines der ältesten existierenden christlichen Klöster der Welt. Aufgrund seiner Bedeutung bildet das Kloster derzeit zusammen mit einigen umliegenden Dörfern eine der drei Erz[[eparchie]]n der [[Syrisch-Orthodoxe Kirche von Antiochien|Syrisch-orthodoxen Kirche]] im Irak. Erzbischof ist [[Mor Timothaeus Mosa Alshamany]]. Jedes Jahr am 14. September versammeln sich Christen verschiedener kirchlicher [[Denomination (Religion)|Denominationen]] in dem Kloster, um dem Todestag von Sankt Mattai zu gedenken.&lt;br /&gt;

Seit dem Ausbruch der [[Aufstand im Irak (nach US-Rückzug)|Irakkrise]] 2014 bedrohte der [[Islamischer Staat (Organisation)|Islamische Staat]] das Kloster. Nur wenige Kilometer vom Kloster entfernt verlief die Frontlinie, die von [[Kurden|kurdischen]] [[Peschmerga]] gegen den IS gehalten wurde. Viele christliche Siedlungen der Region sind aufgrund des Krieges verlassen worden. Allein aus dem [[Ninive]]tal flohen 17.000 christliche Familien vor den IS-Kämpfern.&lt;br /&gt;

Das Kloster Mor Mattai war Sitz des [[Maphrian]]s. In der Gegenwart wird es von der syrisch-orthodoxen Kirche aufrechterhalten.&lt;br /&gt;

Derzeit ist das Mor-Mattai-Kloster der Sitz eines eigenen syrisch-orthodoxen Bistums in der [[Ninive-Ebene]], zu dem die Ortschaften [[Bartella]], [[Baschiqa]], [[Almaghara]], [[Alfaf]] und [[Merka (Irak)|Merka]] gehören. Die größte Stadt der Ninive-Ebene [[Baghdida]], die mehrheitlich syrisch-katholisch mit einem nur kleineren syrisch-orthodoxen Anteil ist, gehört allerdings zum [[Bistum Mossul]], auch &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Bistum Mosul, Kirkuk und Kurdistan&amp;#039;&amp;#039; genannt.
